Wireless Routers – Device used to link wireless devices to a wireless network

Many wireless routers are configured with the Wireless-B or 802.11b wireless standard. This standard applies to all wireless products and is the standard that all manufacturers of wireless products must meet in order to be compatible with other wireless devices on a network. A new standard is being developed that will make wireless internet access speed soar, and many can not wait for standard Wireless-G to enter the wireless networking market.

The standards or specifications for wireless routers are built-in to the devices, just as all wireless features are built into the motherboard or accessed through external wireless ports such as a USB port. This wireless standard for routers allows wireless devices such as wireless laptops to be joined together to form a home wireless network. The formation of the wireless network involves a joining of various hubs, and switches with a router being the device that is placed in the center.’

A wireless router will have a four port hub on the rear that allows up to four computers to be added to the wireless network. These computers would be joined to the wireless router with wired cables. Each wireless computer on this wireless network could be used to place internet telephone calls, or serve as a device for other DSL modem based computer connections.

There are security features built-in to all wireless routers too. The wireless transmission process involves a file checking system that will identify any irregularities that involve file security, and it can also be configured to accommodate a virtual private network that would be solely dedicated to the use of only two computer locations. Other filters can be put into place that would limit the areas that users on the wireless network could visit on the internet.

Some people simply think about routers as being computer devices that route message traffic to the right destination. The wireless technologies that are built-in to routers do that service and a whole lot more. They can identify when message packets do not reach their destination, or can quickly resend those messages that reached their destination but contained errors.

Setting up a home wireless computer network is very simple since the wireless router technology uses a built-in browser utility system that does most of the work for you. With a wireless network in place, it is possible to provide internet access to more people and give them internet broadband speeds to use to download files with. The wireless router is a technological marvel that is going to be five times faster once the new standards have been put in place.
